This client reached out with one goal: get rid of the weedy turf in her sunny front yard and replace it with plants that are more suited to the growing conditions, provide better habitat for pollinators and songbirds, while looking nice and increasing curb appeal. Our design incorporated the following elements:
- Replace existing turf with beautiful, colorful, bee/pollinator friendly, drought meadow garden
- Planting should feel “full” – i.e. layered plant matrix, tight plantings, annual filler, grasses, etc.
- Flowering trees + deciduous and coniferous shrubs provide diverse textures and multi-season structure/interest.
- Boulder wall/rock garden along the front slope/sidewalk edge for sculptural interest and slight soil retention
- Hard edging between neighboring properties to separate turf from native planting.
- Include paths to facilitate mail carrier and landscape maintenance access and overall enjoyment of the garden
- Existing foundation beds will be modified to compliment the new planting.
- Blvd planting must be a tough mix of drought, salt and snow tolerant species.
