This Longfellow Neighborhood yard design was to capture our client’s adventurous energy and to create a space that emphasizes discovery with interesting elements to explore throughout the yard. The aesthetic of the space is natural and spontaneous, whimsical and just a little witchy. To achieve this we’ve incorporated an interesting mix of materials – recycled concrete, boulders, logs, natural stone, wood and steel – with an emphasis on repurposing materials already on site.
This playful mix of materials is set into a landscape defined by curves, undulating topography, and vibrant planting zones. Throughout the garden, plant species were selected for rich color, interesting texture and unique forms. At the same time, we’ve prioritized species with a range of functions including perimeter screening, edible and medicinal uses as well as pollinator and habitat value (for visiting birds and insects).
Following the same approach for the boulevard design, we chose a mix of unique materials and plants that are well-suited to the harsh roadside conditions. For the south boulevard, in particular we’ve designed an inviting and interactive space that is sure to transmit the clients’ sense of adventure to the greater Seward/Longfellow community.
